Oxford Tutors Interview time special!
Failed to get the grades that you need? Not one of the record 24.1 per cent of candidates who obtained A grades in this year's exams? Its time for resits and this is just the site to find out where to go.
According to the Times 99,609 of the half million-odd A-level students who applied to university found that not only didn't get the grades they needed for their first choice Uni but also failed to get into their second “insurance” course. 37,197 - about one in three of these went through the UCAS clearing system of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service to get a place. So what happened to the rest?
The Independent claims that even if you fail to get the grades for your main choices "top universities" (which are apparently Nottingham & Leeds) said they would be prepared to make offers to students who obtained lower-grade passes.
On the other hand if you are focused on a particular course and you've just missed the grades its worth remembering that according to the Independent Schools Council that 47.9% - nearly half of all private school pupils' A-level entries this year were awarded A grades. What more in 2005, 27.1% of pupils in independent schools gained three or more grade As at A-level, compared with 8% of pupils in all state schools. Roughly speaking - and perhaps controversially it meant that if you go private then you've got roughly three times the chances of getting top grades. If you are investing your own hard earned cash or borrowing for this then this has got to seriously affect your thinking if you are planning to resit.
